Adobe CS3 or Above
All of the production RIPs at Half Price Printers are set up using Adobe production software;
If you are using a Non-Adobe product (Corel, Quark, etc.) some errors may result.

Half Price Printers cannot be held responsible for any printing problems that result from system incompatibilities.

If you have any doubts, please call our production staff on; 0412 909 726 or 0412 627 673
for further assistance before uploading your PDF for printing.

Corel DRAWX5 Settings
Half Price Printers uses Corel DrawX5 Software. Please note the following if you are a Corel user. CorelDraw has its own built in PDF functionality and, from time to time, PDF files created in CorelDraw have conflicted with the Adobe CS standards.

At times, the irregularities between Adobe and other non-Adobe PFD files have resulted in some unavoidable printing problems. While we welcome your Corel PDF files.

Half Price Printers cannot accept responsibility for file conflicts between Adobe and non-Adobe produced PDF files.

There are a number of precautions clients can carry out to minimize the likelihood of these files conflicting, but the responsibility is on the customer to ensure the PDF is print ready to Half Price Printers acceptable standards.

While conflicts between Corel generated PDF files and Adobe CS are becoming less common (about 3% overall) there is still a likelihood, so we have a number of steps that you can take to minimize these.

SOME SUGGESTIONS

Gradients
Try to convert your gradients to a 300dpi bitmap (with transparency), this may counter the likelihood you’re your
object tiling.

Drop shadows
Break your drop shadow apart from your object and convert it to a bitmap as with gradients (above).

Fonts
Convert ALL fonts to ‘curves’. The vector based image is not likely to default to a substitute font in the PDF process.

Common Errors

Here is a short list of common errors that can occur in the pre-press process. For FAQ please consult the FAQ page, below is a list errors and quick solutions that may result in the prepress process. White text or white object has disappeared on print job. This is an overprinting error that Adobe software does warn you about. Overprinting is a process where you set an object to multiply (mix) with the colour below it. Unfortunately, if you multiply a white colour over the top of a dark colour, the white disappears. Unfortunately, this is a prepress and design error, and not the responsibility of Half Price Printers. Fonts are appearing as Hyroglyphics or incorrect font. Due to the immense flooding on the internet of ‘dodgy’ fonts, and also the varied platforms that can be used to create artworks, we highly recommend outlining your fonts. We cannot guarantee the digital step process in rendering to output that all fonts will be perfect. 99.9% of the time they are, but we highly recommend you outline your fonts before sending your files to us.
